The present thematic priority areas of work of the BBC MediaAction (formerly BBC World Service Trust) are Health, Governance and Human
Rights, Humanitarian Response, livelihood and climate Change. These have guided
its project design and interventions. The BBC Media Action is looking for
interested/motivated candidates to join the team in Abuja as:
JOB TITLE:
ASSISTANT PRODUCER (RADIO DRAMA) - LOCATION: Abuja
The contract duration is expected to be one year with a
start date of January 5th, 2013
and a probation period of 3 months.
DUTIES:
- Assert the producer in the delivery of assigned outputs on
time and within budget. Coordinate and conduct research on themes and messages
and ensure all content information are accurate clear and unambiguous across
languages.
-Support the Producer in sourcing and contacting writers,
editors and actors.
-Analyze information, data/materials for research document
and work as a research points-person during workshops and assist in script
development.
-Research, write, translate, edit or adapt stories or
programme material; to find contributors and interviewees as well as other
sources of material and/or actuality, as appropriate and to the required
specification whilst maintaining professional journalistic standards of
accuracy, impartiality and fair dealing and adhering to the SEC’s Producers guidelines.
-Contribute to a moving story, amending and updating
material as required.
-To be involved in thinking through and around editorial
problems, developing realistic alternative strategies and approaches.
-Understand the MA’s strategy and to suggest ideas
appropriate to its distinctive style and content. Liaise closely with other
team members and with contributors, reporters and stringers. Where necessary to
liaise with humanitarian organizations for assistance with information
gathering.
-Assist in the preparation of operational reports.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE
& EXPERIENCE
- Ability to create
original ideas and tell compelling stories. Good command of English as well as
Pidgin English language.
-The ability to write scripts and cues to an acceptable
standard of Journalism.
-Clear written and verbal communication skills and good
written and spoken English Language.
-Attention to detail is a key requirement.
-Ability to analyse information and find the engaging
stories.
-Ability to work well with colleagues and a diverse range of
contacts.
-Demonstrate creativity with programme formats.
-A resilient, flexible and adaptable approach in the face of
rapidly changing circumstances and shifts. Evidence of a strong interest in
governance, international news and current affairs.
-Evidence of a high standard of editorial judgement. Team
working - able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a
range of people.
-Works co-operatively with others to be part of a team, as
opposed to working separately or competitively. Resilience - manages personal
effectiveness by managing emotions in the face of pressure, set backs or when
dealing with provocative situations.

REMUNERATION:
Salary range is from between N150,000.00
and N160,000.00 per month but does not include moving or relocation allowance
to duty station.
